Mokauea
My uncle took my cousins and I out on his boat recently to Sand Island. When I passed Mokauea, (not knowing anything about it at the time) I was curious what it was about. It looked abandoned, mysterious, and I thought it was pretty cool that a couple weeks after this experience I was able to learn more about it. Everything the guest speaker shared with us was cool and also humbling. I had no idea at one time Mokauea and the other pieces of land that are now separated were once connected before the land was dredged. Our people lived there are thrived off of the abundant land that use to be.
Campus Tour.
Last week Friday our class did a campus tour. Each of us were given a card with a picture of a building and background information about it inside. I walk around campus every day but I donʻt think I ever took the time to understand the history behind our buildings. I liked learning about the different people and how they were related to each other. We also learned the only two buildings that were not named after Hawaiians are Midkiff and Smith. The building I was assigned was Midkiff. I learned that he was a very well educated scholar.
